Consider traveling up Highway 50 to Elmdale and then turning west. Within 90 minutes, you’ll be surrounded by the genuine serenity of Kansas. Listen to the rustling leaves, gaze up at an unpolluted night sky, and bask in golden tranquillity. The Owl’s Nest Silo House is a silo vacation property located deep in the heart of West Chase County, surrounded by lush soybean fields and cradled by a calm creek valley. This isn’t just any house; it’s a precisely planned log cabin built in 2019, which you can call home for the weekend.
Gerald Wiens, the man behind this hideaway, had intended it to be a log home for infrequent weekend rentals.”We decided to build a log cabin and, hopefully, rent it out for weekends like Airbnb.” “We figured just a couple weekends a month,” he explained. He had no idea the Paw Print Cabin would be so popular during the pandemic year, with over 180 nights booked!
An old silo stood towering near the cabin. It was in excellent condition and triggered an idea in Gerald. He began a mission to turn the silo into a living area with some inventiveness, sketches, models, and floor plan thinking. The circular structure, on the other hand, caused certain difficulties. “That’s very much what happened. Then, you know, we just looked at a lot of possibilities. We had miniature models created. “We had different floor plans,” Gerald told KSN.
The end result? A 45-foot-tall four-story masterpiece. The foyer of the silo vacation rental naturally transitions into a distinctive circular living area, an intimate space built for comfort and relaxation. Two luxurious leather chairs strike the eye right away, perfectly positioned to allow uplifting talks or quiet periods of reflection. A new flat-screen TV is strategically installed above a spectacular stone-framed gas fireplace for those looking for entertainment.
Whether you’re in the mood for a movie night or simply want to enjoy the soft warmth of the flames while watching your favorite show, this living room is ideal. Not to mention the practicality of a half-bathroom discreetly concealed beneath the winding stairs. This space-saving design guarantees that guests don’t have to leave the conveniences of the living area to find amenities.
Furthermore, the Owl’s Nest Silo House provides an incredible voyage to the height of luxury. To reach the splendor of the fourth-floor master suite, you must start on a fascinating ascent of 45 curving stairs. The second level has a comfortable bedroom that can sleep three people. Gerald has created a unique bunk bed with a full-size bed on the bottom and a twin bed on top.
Meanwhile, he had a challenge: placing a bathroom on the same floor as a bedroom. What is the solution? This large bathroom, which serves both bedrooms, takes up the entire third floor. What distinguishes it is the generous shower, which dwarfs those seen in regular households. It’s a true luxury, allowing guests to indulge in elegance. The master bedroom, with a 16-foot ceiling and a sumptuous king-size bed, is the pinnacle of this architectural marvel.
Gerald put his heart and soul, as well as countless hours, into this project. The silo just welcomed its first visitors. Are you curious about the tariff? It costs $175 per night, with a two-night minimum stay and an extra cleaning fee.
