Heaven On Earth Cake

Growing up, we associated summer with angel food cake. Something about the lighter-than-air cake, mixed with berries, instantly transports us back to all those hot days when angel food cake was exactly the thing to satisfy our sweet craving without being too heavy in the heat. We’ve gone a few steps beyond a simple angel cake and some fruit, but the changes we’ve made have rocketed this meal into our top tier of favorites, and you can make it at any time of year.

We present to you: the heaven on earth cake. This is a sumptuous, wonderful trifle-esque dish with numerous layers of yumminess all rolled into one, also known (by our friends and family) as cherry angel trifle. Begin by cubing one angel food cake – or two, if using a loaf – and spreading half of the cubes into your 913. Then, on top of the cubes, dollop cherry pie filling, followed by a smooth layer of Greek yogurt vanilla pudding and the remaining cubed cake.

A thick layer of frozen whipped topping encases everything and acts as a seal, allowing the cake to absorb the pie filling and pudding. YUM. While you can serve this dessert right away, we recommend chilling it for a day (or two), if you have the time. The flavors intensify, the angel food cake absorbs some of the moisture from the pudding and softens into absolutely addictive bliss, and you’re left with a seriously excellent dessert. You can’t go wrong with this, whether you name it heaven on earth cake or cherry angel trifle, and you’ll find yourself yearning for it all year!
