Paris Hilton is speaking up about what it’s taken for her family to grow. The multihyphenate parent, 43, discusses her decision to use a surrogate to bring son Phoenix Barron, now 10 months old, on the opening episode of season 2 of Paris In Love. “Surrogacy was a difficult decision for me to make,” she said. “I would have loved that experience of growing the baby in your tummy and feeling the kicks and all of those exciting moments, but my life has just been so public,” she went on to say.
“So even though the baby is biologically mine and Carter’s, we decided to have a surrogate carry him.” Never miss a story again — subscribe to PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter to receive the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to intriguing human interest stories. Carter Reum, Hilton’s husband, reiterated same fears for Paris and their baby in a subsequent confessional in which he discussed his family’s plans.
“Now having a family with Paris, we want our family to grow up and be normal and not always be known as Paris Hilton’s children,” he went on to say. “We have to think about safety,” Reum added. “It’s one thing if someone stops and asks Paris for a photo at the farmer’s market. It’s a very different story with the baby in the stroller.” “I don’t think we know everything the journey’s gonna throw at us, but we’re just gonna tackle it as we go,” he said.
Hilton recently spoke with PEOPLE about the upcoming season of her reality show, stating that she is “excited for my fans to see this next stage of my life, being a wife and a mom.” “You get to experience an in-depth look into my life and what a fun mom I am and how much love that I have to give and how I am very hardworking,” she said. “This season is also a very healing one.”
From going through the process of releasing my memoir and talking to my family about it, to surprising my mother on the show with her first encounter with Phoenix. “This season has so many special moments,” Hilton added. “I’m also excited for people to get an inside look at what’s going on in my life right now.” I’m looking forward to being in my mother’s era. I feel like this is my best era yet, and I can’t wait to show the world.”
