Two boys, Michael and Henry, lived in a quiet village with beautiful scenery and rolling hills. When their beloved grandmother Eleanor died, it changed their lives forever. Eleanor was a rich and well-kind woman. The villagers loved her. The people in the village were also amazed by her huge land, which went on forever. The land was centered around a beautiful house with a well-kept garden that looked like it was always in bloom thanks to Eleanor’s loving care.
For at least one of her grandchildren, Eleanor’s death made a big hole in their lives. Michael had spent a lot of time with her learning about how to care for the land and make life.Michael was sad when he heard about her situation. He would deeply miss his grandmother, who made his life happy and bright. Eleanor didn’t last long after it was said that her illness would kill her.
Many people in the town helped Michael and Henry get ready for her funeral. Interestingly, Henry didn’t seem sad during these days even though he was very busy. He almost looked like he was happy about something. The two brothers were in the sad office of the town attorney, where Eleanor’s will was being read out loud. The words of the lawyer could be heard all over the room, making everyone feel ready. The words inside would decide the future of the family.

They were shocked to find out that Eleanor had not left them the big house that was the center of her land, but instead the garden that had been her joy and safe place. The two brothers, Henry being the older, were shocked when they heard this. Once he realized how shocking the news was, his eyes got big and his cheeks turned red. He looked forward to receiving the beautiful home, which would come with priceless artifacts, fancy furniture, and the family’s history.
He was shocked and upset by this sudden turn of events. “That’s crazy!” The sound of Henry’s voice echoed through the room, showing how unhappy and hopeless he was. “She couldn’t have left us alone in the garden!” What else but a garden?” She gave the garden to others. Michael, the younger brother, sat behind Henry. His calm face was very different from the turmoil his brother was feeling inside. In a calm way, he smiled. At least in his eyes, it showed that he knew what the gift they had been given meant.
He spoke softly, “Remember how much time and love she put into this garden, Henry.” His voice calmed the chaos. She could go there to feel safe and protected. That’s what I think she wanted us to think about it. The boys were expected to do something that was written in the will. To work with the land’s natural cycle, they had to put vegetables and fruits that would grow in each season.

This idea made Henry even more angry, so he stormed out of the lawyer’s office, denying any responsibility for the garden. But Michael completely agreed with what their grandma wanted. A lawyer gave him and Henry a list with Eleanor’s gardening directions on it. He was stressed out from all the work that had to be done. When they got home, Henry looked very angry. He screamed and rolled up the map into a ball. Michael was aware that he couldn’t help with the yard.
Moving the fragile rose bushes was his first job, which he took very seriously. The shovel hit something solid as he dug holes and carefully placed the grafts. When he found a small, worn-out jar with a letter inside, it interested him. He recognized the script right away. It belonged to Eleanor. In the letter, she thanked him for working hard to make her dreams come true.
It let out a secret: there were 25 more jars hidden all over the huge yard, and each one held a surprise. Michael’s heart was racing with a mix of excitement and nostalgia as he set out on a treasure hunt across the yard. It was clear that Michael wasn’t after the money, since each jar was full of it. With each new thing he found, he felt closer to his grandma and like she had led him on a journey of remembering and discovering. As he took out the 24th jar, though, he noticed that the 25th was still missing.
He looked all around him. After a week, he still hadn’t found his beloved grandmother’s last jars. That’s when the image of his grandmother sitting next to a lavender bush came back to him. Following his gut and looking under the fragrant petals, Michael found the last jar. The note talked about a person named Simon and gave his phone number. Michael shook with excitement as he called, wanting to figure out the puzzle even more.
Simon, Eleanor’s lawyer, was recognized by the person on the other end of the call. Simon confirmed that the person who found the letter would be the one to take Eleanor’s most valuable things, as well as the yard and the big house. Michael was shocked by what he noticed. Simon gave him some forms to sign and a box with diamonds and gold jewelry in it. The papers said that he could only keep the house after he turned eighteen.
Michael wasn’t upset; he was just happy to be able to keep his grandmother’s beautiful house and remember her. In the years that followed, Henry did everything he could to get his hands on Michael’s money. He tried to take Michael to court because he was so mad. He tried very hard, but the lawyers told him that Eleanor’s will was very specific. She told them that they would have to work in the garden in order to receive it.

The lawyers had agreed to keep her last wishes secret, so they were hidden in a part of the will. After a few years, Michael felt what seemed like a lasting echo of his grandmother’s spirit as he stood in the hallway of the house he had thought was out of reach. Eleanor had planned this complicated treasure hunt so that her most valuable things would go to the person who really cared about her garden and, by extension, her heritage.
Sunshine pouring in through the big windows made designs of warmth and brightness that made Michael smile. His deep respect and love for his grandmother led him to the secret jars, a close relationship with her, and now the beautiful house where his grandmother’s spirit was kept. Meanwhile, Henry couldn’t see how smart their grandmother’s plans were because he was so angry and made hasty choices at first.

He sat on the edge and watched his brother walk through the halls. He felt both jealous and amazed as he did so. In spite of how beautiful the house was, Henry felt terrible that he hadn’t given Eleanor’s wishes his full support.
