Everyone knows that some babies are born with a blue skin tone. This is normal, though, because the baby will turn pink in a few hours and be the normal color. But here, Benjamin Stacy, who was born in 1975, made doctors from all over the world go crazy. And all of this is because he was born with rich blue skin that hasn’t changed at all.
He was taken right away to the medical center at the University of Kentucky in the United States, but they couldn’t figure out what was wrong either. It was later found that the baby was a long-lost relative of the only Fugate family with a trait like that. Their great-great-grandfather and great-great-grandmother were both born in 1800. They probably had a very rare gene that they passed on to their children and grandchildren.

Because of this, four of the seven little Fugates had blue skin too. Back then, it was normal to have siblings when you got married. This is how the gene got passed down from one family to the next. Kids from the blue-skinned family didn’t go to the doctor until the middle of the last century to find out what was wrong with them.

It turned out that the skin is blue because the blood has more of the protein methemoglobin. It is a version of standard, “healthy” hemoglobin that doesn’t work. Methemoglobin, on the other hand, is blue, so the skin stays blue since hemoglobin is red. Also, the doctors were able to treat it.

The color “methylene blue” was made from them. Within a few hours, the face was back to normal after a certain dose that had been tested and proven to work. They lost their gene when they started having children with people from other families.
