The Drifters’ ‘You’re More Than a Number’ tops charts once again.

Remember watching The Drifters perform on Top of the Pops in the 1970s? What a delight that was! I recently discovered a footage of them singing “You’re More Than a Number in My Little Red Book” on the show, which brought back so many wonderful memories.

The Drifters were in top form, looking great in matching suits as they sang that catchy song. Sure, the lip sync was a little odd, but groups used to mime to their tracks on TOTP back then. But that didn’t detract from the delight of watching these amazing guys do their thing.

The Drifters on Stage

I had the pleasure of seeing The Drifters perform live at The Golden Garter in Manchester circa 1983. Let me tell you: they put up a fantastic show! Hearing the silky harmonies and toe-tapping rhythms live was a wonderful experience.

“You’re More Than a Number” has long been one of my favorite Drifters tunes. It has the right blend of love lyrics and energetic melody that makes you feel wonderful on the inside. Whenever song sounds on the radio, I can’t help but sing along and remember my carefree childhood.
