There are numerous ways to eat noodles, but one of my favorites is really simple and easy to prepare. Of course, I enjoy a nice gourmet pasta, but occasionally the cheap basics outperform anything high-brow. That is the case with this creamy pea and noodle dish. It’s a one-pan meal that comes together quickly and doesn’t require the use of an oven! There’s also no need to make béchamel because the sauce comes together naturally.
But the flavor is what I really enjoy about this dish. This is a nostalgic recipe for me because I ate this a lot growing up!This recipe is so simple, it’s almost like tuna casserole but without the tuna or the baking! To start this dish, lightly brown some egg noodles in butter in a big skillet. This adds color and flavor to the noodles and keeps them from becoming too soggy when you add the liquid components.
Make sure your skillet is extremely large so that everything fits. If you don’t have a big enough skillet, use a stockpot instead. The beauty of this dish is that everything cooks together. The next step is to add some cheese, turn off the heat, and cover to allow it to melt completely. After that, you’re ready to eat this cheesy, creamy noodle dish.
Because peas have a lot more protein than other vegetables, you can make this your main dish if you choose. Serve as a side dish with burgers, chicken, or any preferred protein.
