My 16-year-old stepson wants to bring his new girlfriend on our holiday to Spain. My husband agreed, but stated he couldn’t afford more than four tickets, so we had to leave my 18-year-old daughter at home. I was upset and chastised him for preferring a stranger over his own stepdaughter, whom he had been parenting since she was seven.

He responded, “That stranger is my son’s guest…”. Furthermore, you appear to forget that your daughter’s father is negligent and indolent, never paying for her vacations. Perhaps it is time for him to step up.” I felt powerless. We traveled for Spain without my kid because I knew her biological father couldn’t afford to travel to Europe.

When we returned, we were startled to discover that my daughter had packed her belongings and moved in with her dad. She blames me for not advocating for her. I’m saddened and at a lost. I still can’t believe how cruel my spouse was and how his actions lead to this horrible predicament. What shall I do?
