Avoiding the ‘Spare Curse’: Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Strategy for Prince Louis

Prince Louis and his older sister, Princess Charlotte, will most likely never be king or queen. Prince George is second in line of succession after his father, Prince William, and is expected to one day lead the British monarchy. However, even if they never sit on a throne, Louis and Charlotte will play an important part in the Firm as they grow up.

Their estranged uncle, Prince Harry, has already expressed anxiety about Charlotte and Louis’ prospects, publicly stating that they will be the “spare” for Prince George, just as he was for Prince William. However, William and Kate Middleton appear to have taken a different approach to their children’s childhood. The Royal Family and its institutions evolve in tandem with the changing world.

Their children are not being raised in the same way that Prince Harry and Prince William were, and this may have an impact on Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte, given the monarchy’s changing role in society today. According to a new story, Prince William and Kate Middleton appear to have a plan for their youngest boy that is heavily influenced by Harry’s upbringing.

Prince Louis is growing so quickly. As hard as it is to believe, the prince celebrated his sixth birthday in April and has since become a fan favorite among royal admirers. When Louis’ great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, died in 2022, he became fourth in line for the British throne. While he is unlikely to become king, the young prince, like his predecessors, is expected to play an important role as a senior Royal Family member in the future, much like Princess Anne, King Charles’ sister, does now.

Prince Louis. However, not everyone is convinced by that potential, and one obvious skeptic is a family member who was once extremely close to Louis and his brothers. Louis was just two years old when Harry and his wife left the Royal Family and the country, but the estranged prince has since expressed strong views on his nephew’s future.

In recent years, the expression “spare to the heir” has regained prominence, thanks in large part to Harry. Three years after leaving royal life, in January 2023, he published his book Spare, in which he expressed to the world his view that he would never be seen as important as his older brother, Prince William, who is slated to become King Charles.

The phrase “Spare” has become synonymous with Harry, who even claimed that King Charles used the word the day the estranged prince was born. However, it did not end there. Harry also wrote about Prince Louis and his older sister, Princess Charlotte, saying that he is concerned about their future. The Duke wrote simply that he fears they would end up like him, a “spare.”

In an interview with The Telegraph to promote his book, Harry opted to talk about William and Kate’s three children. “Though William and I have talked about it once or twice, and he has made it very clear to me that his kids are not my responsibility, I still feel a responsibility knowing that out of those three children, at least one will end up like me, the spare,” says Harry. “And that hurts, that worries me.”

Prince Harry is anxious about Prince Louis’ future. Harry went on: “I was brought into the world in case something happened to Willy; I was summoned to give backup, distraction, diversion, and, if required, a substitute part. Kidney, maybe. Blood transfusions. Speck of bone marrow. This was made plainly obvious to me from the beginning of my life’s journey and reaffirmed on a frequent basis after that.”

Prince Louis, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte waives to a crowd of people

According to the line of succession, Prince William will succeed King Charles, following which Kate Middleton will become queen. After William, the crown will pass to Prince George, who will be succeeded in line by his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as long as he does not have any offspring. Spare was the first time Harry spoke publicly about William and Kate’s children, and royal insiders quickly urged him not to do so again.

“Harry should avoid Prince William’s children. Ingrid Seward, royal author and editor of Majesty Magazine, told The Sun that he should lay off everyone and button it right now. “It is a very dangerous road to go down, to start talking about other people’s children.” She continued, “And what he thinks Prince William told to him is perfectly correct – they are William’s duty, not his, therefore he should stay out of it.

It is not Harry’s business. But Harry has become a menace to his family and to himself because he can insert his little asides anytime he wants. Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Plan to Avoid ‘Spare curese’ for Prince Louis. While Prince Harry enraged his brother and Kate Middleton with many of the allegations and comments made in his book and previous interviews, royal expert Jennie Bond believes that the Prince and Princess of Wales “must be acutely aware” of the problems that could arise from Prince Louis—and Princess Charlotte—being a “spare.”

“They have already shown that they have a different and modern attitude to bringing up royal children and I’m sure they will do everything to make Charlotte and Louis feel every bit as special, loved and valued as George,” Bond told the British newspaper. “I believe they will push Louis to experience life outside of the royal fold… It may be the military, but it could also be working in charity or doing something he enjoys after finishing his degree. I’m sure they’ll push him to attend university, which they both adored and, of course, where they met love.”

The royal expert went on to say, “And from there, they will want him to find a life that is important to him while also being proper for the son of a future King. They will try to ensure that he feels he is living a worthwhile life, regardless of his position in the line of succession, and this will most likely involve some form of service, as they have stated from the beginning that they want their children to understand that having empathy for others is not only a kindness, but also rewarding.

As Bond indicated, William and Kate may push Louis to do new activities and discover his passions outside of royal life. “William & Kate don’t want history to repeat itself” If he chooses to remain in the royal family, he will most certainly be assigned to a senior position within the monarchy, along with substantial titles. However, Bond is not the only one who believes Prince Louis will do more than just attend royal events.

According to OK!, Camilla Tominey, a royal specialist and associate editor at The Telegraph, stated that Prince William and Kate Middleton will allow Charlotte and Louis to “have their own careers” if they like. “[William & Kate] don’t want history to repeat itself and Prince Louis seem like a royal hanger-on and go down the Duke of York path,” she told the British newspaper The Telegraph.

“A lot of the more minor royals have got careers of their own so they aren’t really being tax payer funded,” she reasoned. “The extent to which the Cambridges have tried to normalise the lives of their children very much points in the direction of – yes, Prince George has his destiny mapped out but Princess Charlotte and Louis’ having their own careers?'”

Tominey made the following statement: “They’ve got to get the balance right of what their own children want to do with their lives and their royal commitments.””We might see fewer royals in the future than we are accustomed to. But the question is: will there be enough royals to go around? Why is Prince Louis absent from sporting events?

As previously said, Prince Louis has been a popular among royal admirers in recent years. He hasn’t accompanied his parents on many royal engagements, but those he has attended have been exceptional, traditional events like Trooping the Colour or the Christmas Day Service at Sandringham. Being exposed to public life at such an early age may have detrimental consequences, and William and Kate are allegedly aware of this.

Speaking on True Royalty TV’s The Royal, royal analyst Lizzie Robinson stated that Louis is absent from many engagements because the Prince and Princess of Wales are “careful” about presenting him to the public eye. “They’ve [Prince and Princess of Wales] been really careful to manage how they’ve done it and what they’ve taken them to,” Robinson told me. “They considered each event on an individual basis.

And the fact that Louis was not taken indicates that they are weighing what they believe is best for each child at what moment. So, you understand, his time will come.” Prince William and Kate Middleton have long been enthusiastic about sports and physical activity. However, Louis has not attended key events such as Euro 2024, where William took Prince George, or the Wimbledon final, where Kate brought Princess Charlotte.

“One royal child who was not at England’s Euro 2024 defeat or Wimbledon was Prince Louis,” Nanan-Sen said on The Royal Record Podcast, adding that it had “caused quite a stir online” because many wanted Louis to go. “He’s got to wait a couple more years” “We must remember that he is still just six. Charlotte made her Wimbledon debut when she was eight, so he will have to wait a few more years.

But Kate did tell last year that George and Charlotte went to Wimbledon without Louis, and he was really angry about it. Louis still has plenty of time to discover his life’s passion, and for the time being, he should focus on one thing: being a happy 6-year-old and enjoying whatever adventures fit him best. Furthermore, one thing is certain: as he grows older, royal fans will have numerous opportunities to view him in public, and Prince William and Kate Middleton will definitely know when it is appropriate for him to enter the spotlight.
