Here is why you shouldn’t set the air conditioner to 26°C at night.

1. Body temperature drops at night. Your body temperature naturally falls as you sleep at night. If the thermostat is set to 26°C, the room may feel too warm at night, although being pleasant during the day. Your sleep may be interrupted, and you may feel uncomfortable and hot.

2. Energy use. Air conditioners work harder to keep temperatures down, especially at night when the outside temperature drops. More energy is required to keep the AC at a constant 26°C, increasing power costs and consumption. Energy usage can be reduced by slightly raising the temperature, say to 27-28 °C, without significantly affecting comfort.

3. Effects on Health Cooler evening air can create health problems such as dry skin, throat discomfort, and even lung disease. Long-term exposure to cold air while sleeping might weaken the body’s immune system and increase the risk of infection.

4. Humidity levels. Long-term usage of the air conditioner at lower temperatures might reduce the room’s humidity, leaving the air overly dry. This can lead to dehydration, dry eyes, and dry nasal passages, especially if the air conditioner is left on at 26°C overnight.

5. Sleep disruption. Your body may shiver in an extremely cold room, interrupting your sleep. Although 26°C may appear to be a low temperature, lower body temperatures can nevertheless cause pain at night.

Is setting the air conditioner to 26 degrees at night really an  energy-saving option?

6. Suggested Temperature at Night. The majority of experts recommend setting the air conditioner between 27°C and 29°C at night. This is usually plenty to keep you comfortable while conserving energy and avoiding any health issues.
