This $2 Purchase Turned Out To Be “The Holy Grail Of Photography.”

When collector Randy Guijarro purchased some old photographs in 2010, one in particular jumped out to him: a black-and-white image of people playing croquet in the countryside. He had no idea, however, how important that photograph was. Kagin’s Inc., an Americana specialist, recently established that the individuals depicted in the photograph are none other than famed bandit Billy the Kid and his gang of regulators.

This is only the second known photo of Billy the Kid, and the first to feature the Regulators. In 2011, an auction sold an 1880 photograph of Billy the Kid for $2.3 million. Guijarro’s shot, which dates from 1878, is estimated to earn $5 million! Jeff Aiello, executive director of the new Billy the Kid documentary “Billy the Kid – New Evidence,” told Dale Yurong of ABC 30 that this shot is “the rarest photograph in the world.”

And the greatest part: how much did Guijarro pay for this historic photograph? Two bucks.Talk about a fantastic investment! The best part about this story is that Guijarro purchased the photo just because he liked the way it looked, which is the most crucial factor when it comes to antiques. Take a closer look at the snapshot and learn more about Guijarro’s historic discovery in the news segment below from KOAT.
