1. Start Early
Dental care should begin before the first tooth appears. Gently wipe your baby’s gums with a clean, damp cloth after feedings. Once teeth emerge, usually around 6 months, use a soft baby toothbrush and a tiny smear of fluoride toothpaste.

2. Brush Twice a Day
Encourage your child to brush their teeth twice daily—once in the morning and once before bed. Use a child-sized toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. For children under 3, use a rice-sized amount of toothpaste; for kids 3–6 years old, a pea-sized amount is enough.
3. Supervise Brushing
Young children need help brushing until around age 7 or 8. Make sure they brush for at least two minutes and clean all surfaces of their teeth. Turn it into a fun activity by playing music or using a timer.
4. Teach Flossing
Once your child’s teeth start to touch, usually around age 2 to 6, introduce flossing. Help them learn the proper way to floss to remove food and plaque from between teeth.
5. Limit Sugary Snacks and Drinks
Sugar is a major cause of tooth decay. Try to limit sugary snacks, juice, and soda. Offer water and tooth-friendly snacks like cheese, fruits, and vegetables instead.

6. Regular Dental Visits
Schedule your child’s first dental visit by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth appearing. Regular check-ups every six months help catch any issues early and keep their teeth healthy.
7. Use Dental Sealants and Fluoride Treatments
Ask your dentist about preventive treatments like sealants, which protect the chewing surfaces of molars, and fluoride applications to strengthen enamel.
