Abigail Lorraine ‘Abby’ Hensel and her twin sister Brittany Lee Hensel were born on March 7, 1990. They are two smart and beautiful ladies whose story has inspired many.

Abby and Brittany are conjoined twins. In their case, each of them has a separate head but they share the same body. One of the fascinating features of their unique case is that they seem to have an actual single body without any abnormal proportions making them almost perfectly symmetrical.

In addition, many of their vital organs like the heart, stomach, spine, pair of longs, and spinal cord are doubled. Basically, each twin controls her own half of the body. After they were born, their parents looked into the possibility of separating the girls.

However, they let the plan go when doctors expressed concerns that there was a high likelihood that they both would not survive the operation. This turned out to be a decision the family is grateful for!

As Brittany and Abby grew, they adopted the necessary skills to coordinate their bodies. Sharing the same body no longer became a problem to be solved as the twins simply adapted to what was normal for them.

Abby and Brittany have been highlighted in various media outlets because to the rarity of their situation, including Life Magazine and The Oprah Winfrey Show. They even had their own reality show, Abby & Brittany, which aired on TLC in 2012.

Each of Abby and Brittany has her own driver’s license. The test had to be done twice, once for each twin. Abby is in charge of the right side of the car, while Brittany is in charge of the left.

In 2008, they graduated from high school and went to college at Bethel University, Minnesota. They graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Education in 2012. Last month, the girls announced that they had gotten a job as teachers.

This was revealed in a short documentary. Despite what we imagine must be a challenging condition, these ladies have faced life bravely and with an incredible amount of strength and positivity. They seem to always have a smile on their faces and they remind us that circumstances do not have to dictate our attitude.

However, as of today, we can confirm that Abby and Brittany are elementary school teachers in New Brighton, Minn. The twins teach fourth and fifth grade with a concentration in math, and their students absolutely adore them.
