For many women choosing their bridal gown is one of the biggest decisions when they get married. The second most important part of the bridal wardrobe has traditionally been the going away or send-off outfits. For many women in the 1940s-1960s this would have been a skirt suit!

Then on the honeymoon, the clothes the new bride wore were often stylish, but since they weren’t seen by friends and family there was less emphasis on them. One woman is lucky enough to have the honeymoon clothes her grandmother wore because her granny was wise enough to put them all inside a special suitcase for future generations. Now, the granddaughter has been documenting these very special clothes on social media.

The clothes Maddy Bill’s grandmother wore on her honeymoon in May 1952 were stashed away in a green hard-case valise. She’s going through the suitcase, trying on everything from a mint green pinafore nightgown to a satin blouse and matching costume jewelry. Bill is a Pennsylvania native, and Marie D’Alessandro Donato and her husband Anthony honeymooned in New York City before they met her grandfather Bill.

Bill revealed to Good Morning America that her grandmother had the clothes professionally cleaned before storing them and that they are still in amazing condition, with some elastic items still being “springy”. Since this collection hasn’t been worn, it’s likely that cleaning and then a lack of wear have kept it in excellent condition.

Her grandmother’s clothes seem to be tailor-made for her, which is amazing. On their trip, she even found her grandfather’s red and white striped, knitted tie. As of this writing, there have been more than a dozen of these videos posted online. For one thing, it’s rare to find a time capsule like this in one’s own family. Her grandmother, on the other hand, is still alive and well. Forever timeless and classy are the words Bill uses to describe her grandmother’s style in a TikTok video.
