High school seemed to fly by! I was constantly on the go, juggling school, studying, a social life, and working part-time. I felt rushed to go to class on time and crammed studies in between English and Physics to pass an exam or prepare a report. I’d be walking down the corridor with my nose in a book, not paying attention to who I’d run into. After school, I’d occasionally stay to work on group projects or hop in a friend’s car and go somewhere to hang out!

Yes, there was always something happening. Most of the time, I wouldn’t have time to have lunch or a snack, so I’d have to eat while rushing fast down the corridor – being late was a no-no in school! After watching this video, I feel very fortunate that I did not experience what Sarah Bazzini of Pascack Hills High School in New Jersey did. I’d have been the ideal candidate, always on the go with a muffin or a BLT in hand.

Sarah’s story is told in the video. It was a typical school day for the girl, and she was walking to class as she does every morning, but this one was different. Sarah was casually munching fries when one became caught in her throat. The girl began to fear as she struggled to breathe. Officer Roger Caron, a special law enforcement officer, was on his normal patrol along the hallway when he noticed the troubled teen. “I noticed Sarah didn’t seem right,” he says.

She was stumbling slightly and going swiftly. The closer I got to her, the more I understood there was an issue. Her complexion was discolored. She rushed up to me and began giving me the choking signal.” He then does the Heimlich maneuver, raising her feet off the ground with each abdominal movement to remove the fry. He uses firmness with accuracy and experience.
