Everyone Laughed When the School Janitor Decided to Sing at the Talent Show, Then the Music Began

Steve Perry, the former lead singer of Journey, is one of the people who are praising a school cleaner who sang the band’s signature song last month. Perry wrote, “I love this,” on a TikTok video of Richard Goodall from Terre Haute, Indiana singing “Don’t Stop Believin'” at the end-of-the-year performance at Davis Park Elementary School.

Goodall joined TikTok a few days after Mariah Elizabeth Den shared a video of him performing on her own TikTok. The official Journey account commented, “Love this!” Since then, Goodall has shared videos of himself singing songs by artists like Bonnie Raitt, Wilson Pickett, The Righteous Brothers, Grand Funk Railroad, and the late Canadian singer Jeff Healey.

Since more than 20 years ago, Goodall has been a school cleaner. He likes bands like Journey and Boston, and in a recent video, he said that he has recorded “a few CDs” and plays at his church “and made people smile.” Goodall tried out virtually for The Voice but wasn’t chosen.
