People stopped going to the restaurant that Alexis’s parents ran for a long time because they couldn’t adapt to new styles and stuck to the old ones. When things started to look worse, they set up a wedding for their daughter. She was getting married to a man she had never met.Robert had a lot of money, but he was cold. They didn’t talk to each other much, but their wedding was very fancy.
There was no small detail that the wedding manager didn’t take care of. It was the most beautiful day ever. The dress Alexis wore was something most women can only dream of, but she and her husband felt like they didn’t know each other, which was true. “I’m looking forward to being married,” Robert told Alexis a few days before the wedding. “But I have no idea what I’m doing,” was the most he said before letting her in.
They moved into Robert’s house after the wedding. The place was so big and had so many rooms, each one more tastefully decorated and equipped than the last. It was more like a mansion. Robert said, “Come on over. I’ll show you around.” She said, “It’s beautiful,” when they got to the kitchen. “Everything looks lovely.”He said with a bit of pride, “Now, Alexis, this house belongs to you too.”But there was a rule that Robert made.
He told Alexis that they should never go to the attic again. It was not allowed in that room. Alexis agreed and said she would never go up to the attic again. It was too much for her to handle, though, so one day, when Robert had to go to a meeting and she was home by herself, she went to the attic. In the poorly lit attic, Alexis felt like she had found a treasure trove of her husband’s hidden memories.
Spread out in the room were things from his childhood, like toys with untold stories, old letters, and pictures from Robert’s life before they got married. Among these old things were letters from a boy to his army father who was stationed far away during the war. The letters were heartfelt and showed glimpses of a time long ago. “You jerk, why did you come in here?
Now I have to change the locks on my own house because my wife won’t listen to me?” Alexis saw a very angry Robert at the door. She told him, “I just want to understand you. I just want to know you.” Robert settled down when he saw his wife and chose to tell her his story. She began to cry as soon as she opened the door. She had no idea how she could be both confused and calm at the same time.”My dad was very strict.
As a soldier, he thought it was important to keep his feelings inside. He told her, “These are the only things I have from a time when I felt loved.” Robert talked about how lonely he was as a child and how much he wanted his father to like him. This new information made Robert feel better. Alexis no longer saw the cold and quiet man she was used to seeing. He changed at that moment, he let Alexis in, and their relationship grew stronger.
After many years, Robert’s painful past is gone and his daughter April’s happiness has replaced it. He let go of the things that had been bothering him for a long time over time. He also got rid of the things in the attic, which is now a cozy reading nook.
