Heart tugging video of Golden Retriever asking baby sibling to play ball

Hobbes, the Golden Retriever, and his human baby brother, Nolan, are featured in this video. Hobbes is staring intently; at first, we don’t understand why, but then you notice: Nolan is having fun! Hobbes appears to have given Nolan the ball in an attempt to persuade him to play fetch with him. Hobbes, understandably, hasn’t realized that Nolan isn’t yet old enough to throw. As a result, he’s perplexed when Nolan refuses to throw the ball.

Meanwhile, cute little Nolan is just relaxing in his rocker, waving his hands and legs around. Hobbes decides to take the ball back because Nolan isn’t attempting to pick it up. Perhaps the baby hasn’t noticed? Hobbes passes the ball to Nolan once more. Still, there is no reaction from the helpless infant. Nolan just stares at Hobbes, fascinated by him but unwilling to intervene. Nolan can only see the dog going back and forth.

Hobbes places the ball directly on Nolan’s chest for the third time (though it quickly rolls off). Nolan isn’t even looking at Hobbes at this point, but the dog gives it one more shot. He hands the ball to Nolan again, this time licking the child’s face for added motivation. He’s gotten Nolan’s attention, but the tiny child is still unwilling—and unable—to cooperate. Hobbes finally gets the message and moves on, his owners laughing in the background.

Unfortunately for Hobbes, it appears that he will have to wait a little longer before Nolan can play catch. It’ll be a long wait, but once Nolan is old enough to play ball, we’re sure the two will have hours of fun together. But you have to give Hobbes credit: he didn’t give up easily and kept trying!
